Carlotta Ferlito Racist Remarks Towards Simone Biles

Summary:

The article was about Gymnast Carlotta Ferlito racist comments towards Simone Biles. Simone Biles became the first African American to win an all-around world title. Ferlito finished 11th in the all-around and she revealed to reporters a conversation she had with an Italian teammate. She told reporters, "I told Vanny (Ferrari) that next time we should also paint our skin black, so then we could win too". Ferlito later apologized for her comments on Twitter, and she chalked it up to failing to think before she spoke.

Reflection:
I thought this comment was not completely racist but at the same time it wasn't an appropriate thing to say. Carlotta was referring to a trend in gymnastics at this moment, which is going towards a technique that opens up new chances to athletes of color. People are just so quick to think that everything is racist and this is why people of the world can't progress. When someone is obviously joking, we take it and escalate it to another level. Many people might not agree with me but that's my opinion.
