This story scared me. When i put my self in the position of a Latino in the same town as the alleged police officers i ask my self how seriously i would consider moving. This type of thing is not an isolated incident either, it happens in small cases constantly around the country.
This is a perfect example of institutional bias. An overwhelming and powerful issue.

I believe a reasonable way we could react to the police situation is to be careful about the people they hire to take the job. It is too important a job just to let anyone have.
ReplyDeleteA way to react to this situation or even to solve I think the police should hire different race of people into the station so they get used to seeing different races.
ReplyDeleteBoth comments before me are great posts that I agree with. Having a cop that has seen different race would be great to hire. The cop also has to have had exposure to the different kinds of race.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with the posts above me. If you hire people of the race that the alleged racist cops are arresting then you can see for sure that 1) it is racial profiling and discrimination and 2) if it is then the arrest rates would be going down for that reason in that community. Im more of a fan of having the evidence and pinning the right man for the right reasons and I think that's how things should be, not because of someone's color or because you profile somebody in a negative way. Its all about the facts!
ReplyDeleteI believe that away to over come this is to have racial test before the police hire. This would help indicate who is racist and this will cause the police department less stress.
