Homophobia Article
The article I read called " Colorado High Schools Tackle Homophobia" was about high school students in Colorado creating a campaign on homophobia and fighting it. The article was about fighting homophobia and bullying that goes on in sports. In today society there is a lot of hate towards athletes who are gay and they get bullied, these high school students are fighting for what's right and I totally respect that. In the article it says "Colorado student athletes, coaches and administrators are working together to make videos that combat homophobia and bullying in sports and promote the inclusion of all students". Students are taking the time out of there schedule to fight and promote homophobia in sports. These students also talk about supporting there classmates or teammates weather they are gay or straight. Also in the article it says "Some of my best friends are my teammates and I will do anything to help them succeed. That includes accepting them, whether they are gay or straight,” students in the video say, alternating lines. “Regardless of their race, religion or background. None of that matters to me. What does matters is heart, talent and skill.” This quote really touched my heart because it shows how warm- hearted some people can be.
My reflection on this article is that what these students are doing is a great example of leadership. It also promotes awareness on homophobia, and homophobia in sports. This article touched me so much that I even joined there campaign !

I liked this article because it was a positive one when we are used to seeing negative everywhere. This is good because it's all of Colorado which is big and I would think that it is throughout every HS so this is a lot of people challenging homophobia. This reminds me of the new laws in New Jersey sports that says you cannot say homophobic words at other players or you will be suspended.
ReplyDeletePersonally I think this is a great article because there are so many professional gay athletes that don't feel comfortable coming out. By the hockey team doing this it is helping the sport industry become more open to sexuality .
