http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-03-20/local/37860301_1_sexual-harassment-judge-sets-million-jury-award
This article started with a case in 2006 were at a public pool a lifeguards boss wass acting inappropriately. He was saying sexually demeaning things to the lifeguard and always staring at her in her bathing suit. She first went to six different supervisors to complain and no action was taken. Then in October 2006 she was fired from her job. Recently she filled a law suit and even more recently the jury came to a conclusion. She was awarded 3.5 million dollars.
Although sexual harrassment is a big issue I do not belive 3.5 million doallars was a fair or just settlement. Yes I do belive what her manager did was wrong and the failure to act by supervisors was a kiss of death. Even with all of that 3.5 million doallars is too harsh based on the crime. There are serious repeat petifiles thst only serve 10 years in jail but looking at someone the wrong way could cost you 3.5 million doallars. I don't know if its just me but I belive we are severely punishing people for the wrong things.
Q1: Was the verdict of the Jury fair?
Q2: Why do you think she was awarded so much?
I agree with you Kenya when you say that 3.5 million dollars was not a fair settlement. My argument is that yeah I know harassment is bad but in this particular occasion they took it to a next level with the settlement. I feel just because she was is women she got awarded all this money.I surely know that if it were a woman harassing a man they would never think of awarding a man with this amount of money. I just feel that this is unfair.
